Clarity: Mind Map a Story Copy Copy

Gabe Walker December 19, 2023

Clarity: People trust the clear and mistrust the ambiguous.

Clarity requires honesty. With honesty comes the need to share your vision, your purpose, and your expectations. Once people have a good understanding of what you stand for, where you want to go, and the role you play in your vision, it is easier to trust in your leadership.

Goals:

  • Use the mind map method to brainstorm your own stories related to the Clarity Pillar.
  • Identify your top 2-3 stories.
  • Practice telling these stories and integrate them into the facilitation of the Clarity Pillar
  • Save this mind map of story ideas to use in a future training of this pillar.

To-Do:

  • Step 1: Take a piece of paper and write “Clarity” in the center or use page 42 in the certified guide.
  • Step 2: Spend 15-30 minutes creating your mind map.
  • Step 3: Highlight 2-3 of the top stories from your map that you could use in a future training—one short anecdote (30 seconds) and one longer story (3-5 minutes).
  • Step 4: Practice telling your stories.

Remember!

  • Cast your brainstorm wide before narrowing down and refining your stories.
  • Stories should never portray yourself as the “hero.”
  • Stories should never be shared with the purpose of gaining emotional reaction.
  • Stories are shared to add value and relevance to the framework.
  • Cut out 80% of the context and jump right into telling your story.

Below is an example of a mind map. If you are having trouble, here are some ideas to help you brainstorm:

  • Expand on different ages: childhood, adolescence, adulthood
  • Expand on different environments: workplace, school, neighborhood
  • Expand on different relationships: family, friends, colleagues
  • How did clarity help gain trust?
  • How did a lack of clarity result in trust being lost?

Once you have identified your stories, select ‘Mark Complete’.
